POSITION TITLE:     TEWA SCHOOL TEACHER

POSITION SUMMARY: Teach Tewa to students

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. TEWA certification by specified tribe.
  2. Strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
  3. Ability to obtain NMPED Native American Language and Culture Certificate

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Teaches content and skills in the assigned area of instruction to students, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate leaning activities.
  2. Instructs students in subject matter, utilizing various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration; uses audiovisual aids and other materials supplement presentation.
  3. Prepares teaching outline for course of study; assigns lessons and corrects homework papers.
  4. Administers short cycle assessments to evaluate progress, records results and issues progress reports to inform parents of student’s progress in the Tewa language.
  5. Instructs students in Tewa and cultural aspects and customs of the tribe and Tribal Council and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  6. Adapts subject material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
  7. Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual pupil.
  8. Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas using the Tewa language.
  9. Evaluates each students progress in the area of study.
  10. Develop lesson plans
  11. Identifies student needs, and cooperatives with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  12. Communicates with Indian Education and school counselors on pupil progress.
  13. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  14. Administers and monitors assessment.
  15. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  16. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  17. Other assigned tasks required of the immediate supervisor.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year and salary to be established on an annual basis.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
