Reports to: Principal
Job Goal: To motivate each pupil to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language, in accordance with each pupils ability; to interpret to pupils the culture of the countries where foreign language is spoken, to discover and develop special talents of pupils in communicating in the foreign language.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Teach skills and knowledge in the assigned foreign language instruction to Middle and High School pupils, utilizing the curriculum/bilingual curriculum adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. Modern Foreign Language teachers teach aural comprehensive, speaking, reading and writing.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, expected student behavior, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy.
- Provide learning experiences which develop the basic communication skills, utilizing tape recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate.
- Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Instruct pupils in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction. Make minor adjustments and request repairs as required.
- Develop pupil understanding and appreciation of culture and countries where the studied language is spoken.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Evaluate each pupil’s progress in aural comprehensive, speaking, reading, and writing the foreign language in relationship to the level being taught.
- Select and requisition books, instructional aides and instructional supplies, and maintain required inventory records.
- Communicate with parents bi-weekly, monthly or sooner as the need arises, on student’s progress and behavior.
- Identify pupil’s needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of bilingual development programs and implements EPSS.
- Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities to include in and out of school activities.
- Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities, such as Spanish language workshops.
- Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Administer Group Standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
- Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Foreign Language.
- Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
- Perform all other assigned tasks required of the supervisor (s).
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Term of employment is to be established on an annual basis, through the adoption of the school calendar.
SALARY: Salary to be established on an annual basis, through the adoption of the salary schedules.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
