  2. Demonstrate cooperativeness and a willingness to carry-out assigned tasks and performance responsibilities.
  3. Bilingual Endorsement is highly preferable.
  4. Other qualifications determined necessary by the Board.

GENERAL SUPERVISOR:  Supervisor

 

JOB GOAL:  To develop in each pupil skills of learning, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to good communication and literate citizenship; to develop appreciation of good literature of all types; to motivate pupils to read widely for information and recreation; to develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in the field of English.               

 

PEFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to Middle and High School students, utilizing the required competencies and curriculum/bilingual curriculum adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Instruct pupils in citizenship, expected student behavior, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  3. Adapt English materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge pupils.
  4. Select and requisition books and instructional aides appropriate to the interest and maturity level of pupils; and maintain required inventory records.
  5. Adapt the curriculum to provide individual, small group or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual pupil.
  6. Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions based on a variety of mass media and classical and contemporary literature.
  7. Encourage pupils to think independently and to express original ideas.
  8. Evaluate each pupil’s progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), and implement a Bilingual program.
  9. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  10. Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  11. Communicate with parents bi-weekly, monthly or sooner as the need arises, on student’s progress and behavior.
  12. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.

  1. Work with pupils and other classroom teachers in such activities as preparing material for the school newspaper or yearbook, or coordinating entries in essay contests.
  2. Administer Group Standardized Tests in accordance with district testing program.
  3. Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.
  4. Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of bilingual development programs and implement EPSS.
  5. Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
  6. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsoring of student activities to include; in and out of school activities.
  7. Maintain professional competencies through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  8. Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  9. Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent and/or his authorizes designee.
  10. Perform other assigned tasks required by the supervisor(s).

 

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  Term of employment is to be established on an annual basis, through the adoption of the school calendar.

 

SALARY:  Salary to be established on an annual basis, through the adoption of the salary schedules.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
