General Job Function:      

  • Assists in the development of a collaborative climate between the schools and families.
  • Develops programs and activities designed to engage families in improving student achievement.
  • Helps teachers/staff and families develop strong partnerships and enhance communication between parents/families and school staff.
  • Develops and implements effective family involvement strategies and activities to empower students and their families.
  • Helps to recruit partners to become part of the district’s family involvement program.

 

Education/Training/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

 

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

  •  Understand federal and state law in relation to Title I, Part A Parent Involvement, and Local School Councils to ensure the District's compliance with State Board of Education rules and the District's parental involvement policy.

 

Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): 

Standard office equipment and vehicle for district travel. A district car may be used or if the employee uses his/her own vehicle mileage reimbursement is available.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Regularly required to walk, talk and listen.   Frequently is required to stand and sit. Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Light lifting at times.

 

Environmental Conditions

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assist in the development of a collaborative climate between the schools and families. 
  2. Proactively outreach and engage parents and community members to attend Title 1 Parent/Family Partnership monthly meetings. 
  3. Develop a Network database of stakeholders, community leaders, business owners, and parents that will provide support to District Initiatives.
  4. Provide excellent customer service experience for parents, schools, and community members to foster a collaborative learning environment.
  5. Develop programs and activities designed to engage families in improving student achievement.
  6. Design family involvement programs/activities to help families participate more effectively in improving their children’s learning.  
  7. Create presentations to community groups, agencies, professional groups, and other organizations, to provide information on the department and/or initiatives
  8. Help families understand standards and assessments, student test scores, benchmark results, school expectations and developmentally appropriate behavior.
  9. Collaborate with school staff, community members, partners and families to develop programs and activities geared to support families. Facilitate and organize parent meetings and workshops based on this collaboration.
  10. Communicates with parents on behalf of the school (e.g. attendance, behavior, homework, availability of programs and services, completing paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that an on-going partnership between home and school is formed. 
  11. Help teachers/staff and families develop strong partnerships and enhance communication between parents/families and school staff.
  12. Encourage and support school staff to reach out to families. Create ways for families and teachers to meet face-to-face and to know each other, such as class meetings, breakfasts with the principal, and getting-to-know-you activities. 
  13. Work with teachers and other staff to develop learning kits that families can take home to use with their children. 
  14. Communicate regularly with principals about parents’ and families’ ideas and concerns.
  15. Develop and implement effective family involvement strategies and activities to empower students and their families. 
  16. Invite parents to participate in school committees and in the school’s parent organization. Work with those groups to help them be welcoming and supportive of new members.
  17. Document parent/community activities through visual portfolios that include sign-in sheets, flyers, and pictures.
  18. Help to recruit partners to become part of the district’s family involvement program.
  19. Coordinate with community leaders and organizations (e.g. businesses, landlords, youth serving organizations, etc.) for the purpose of building resources and expanding program capabilities to assist families.  
  20. Work with community partners and families to identify resources for families in the Community.  Attend community meetings that will help the liaison connect to community resources for families in the identified schools.
  21. Duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Personal Accountability:

  1. Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
  2. Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
  3. Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  4. Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
  5. Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/special application,
  6. Protects the District’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  7. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.

 

EMPLOYMENT:       Upon an offer of employment, pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1968, pass a background check and provide necessary documentation qualifications.
