General Job Function:
Oversees and supervises District wide Multi-Layered System of Support (MLSS) to provide support to schools and leadership in the implementation and sustainability of the District’s MLSS in compliance NMPED requirements and the District’s Strategic Plan. Trains, oversees and supervises the Student Assistance Team (SAT) process for the District in compliance with NMSA. Trains and organizes SAT Leaders at each school. Submits reports for SAT as required by NMPED. Oversees retention and advancement processes & reporting as required by the State. Uses student performance data from a variety of sources to plan for and assist the District in developing process for Academic Improvement Plans and sites in processes relating to implementation of Academic Improvement Plans. Undertakes work on various projects at the discretion of the Deputy Superintendent.
Education/Training/Experience:
Minimum: Level II NM Teaching License and/or Master’s degree in elementary or secondary education with emphasis in reading, special education, or curriculum development and/or minimum of five (5) years teaching experience.
Preferred: Level III NM Teaching License. At least 5 years teaching experience at the elementary and/or secondary level or Counseling experience. Educational work at various grade levels. Educational experience in teaching or training teachers. Experience working with schools. Experience in developing differentiation plans. Experience in designing Academic Improvement Plans with skill specific instruction and progress monitoring in ELA and mathematics. Experience in the Student Assistance Team process. Experience in team building and working with parents through parent-teacher conferences or the SAT process. Knowledge of NMSA requirements for SAT. Knowledge of MLSS Structures.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of New Mexico Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and ELA, Speaking and Listening, Reading, and Written Language across all grade levels.

- Knowledge of differentiated instruction across grade levels.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experiences with research on pedagogy, educational content for MLSS, child and adolescent development, best practice in instructional delivery and curriculum practices.
- Ability to make regular and spot decisions about programs within established parameters and understanding of district policy and procedures. Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Possess excellent skills in time management, organization, and problem solving.
- Ability to attend regular internal meetings at District and school levels. Knowledge of standard office software and hardware, including work processing, presentation builders, spreadsheets and internet browsers, LCD projectors, and/or SMART boards.
Essential Job Functions:
All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District. Current essential functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Use student performance data from a variety of sources to plan for and assist schools in developing plans for Academic Improvement Plans and teachers in processes relating to implementation of Academic Improvement Plans.
- Assists schools with organization of mathematics interventions and literacy and intervention materials in reading, written language, oral language and behavior.
- Provide training a requested by schools in New Mexico Content Standards in literacy and interventions.
- Assist schools with teaching strategies for mathematics and literacy, differentiation and interventions.
- Assist schools and District personnel with all aspects of implementation of the Multi-Layered Tiered System of Support.
- Work with Non-Instructional Departments and school counselors on behavioral interventions as they apply to SAT.
- Be familiar with District SAT process and forms.
- Work with special education personnel in referral process via SAT.
- Keep informed on latest research, trends and developments in all areas of literacy and MLSS.
- Other duties as assigned.
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):
Standard educational and office equipment including computers, phones, copy machines, etc.
A district car may be used or if the employee uses his/her own vehicle mileage reimbursement is available.
Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Ability to work at a desk; move around frequently for meetings, light lifting. It requires the ability to
communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands
for simple grasping and fine manipulations. At times bending, squatting, reaching and the ability
to lift, carry, push up to 25 pounds. Ability to drive frequently on trips by automobile to school
sites and departments is required.
Environmental Conditions:
Travel to school sites. Must have the ability to sit at a desk or computer for long periods during
the day. Heavy telephone use. Typical office environment with many interruptions all day. Most
work is performed indoors with driving involved traveling from site to site.

- Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid the in prevention of muscle strain/injury.
