General Job Function:      

To collect and analyze pre-diagnostic data for all students referred and to ensure appropriate parent notification of referral and informed consent for testing and evaluation.

 Education/Training/Experience

  • Certificate, license, or other legal credential required.
  • Degree (s) required and area of major study. Must have a Master of Arts Degree in Social Work.
  • Type and amount of prior job experience required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) is highly preferred.
  • Have prior experience in working with Special Education programs.
  • Be familiar with state standards for special education.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

 

Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): 

Standard office equipment and vehicle for district travel. A district car may be used or if the employee uses his/her own vehicle mileage reimbursement is available.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Regularly required to walk, talk and listen.   Frequently is required to stand and sit. Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Light lifting at times.

Essential Job Functions:

 

  1. Disseminates referral forms and appropriate pre-diagnostic forms to schools.
  2. Will maintain a record of receipt, processing, and disposition of referrals for special education.
  3. Will notify parents through a conference of the referral of their child and will.
  4. Provide a description of the information used as a basis for the referral
  5. Advise the parent(s) of the nature and types of diagnostic procedures to be used.
  6. Will apprise the parents of their rights to examine all relevant records with respect to classification and placement of the child.
  7. Prior to beginning pre-diagnostic workup perhaps at the time of notification: will secure informed written consent for individualized diagnostic evaluation and/or re-evaluation.
  8. Consent shall be obtained at a conference or in a manner mutually convenient to the parent and social worker.
  9. Consent shall be solicited in terms and language understandable for the parent.
  10. An interpreter shall be provided when needed.
  11. Shall notify parent(s) of the availability of mediation or an impartial hearing to resolve issues regarding the child’s identification, evaluation, placement or service provision.
  12. Ensure the collection and analysis of data for all children referred for special education evaluations. The data must include:
  13. Review of past educational records.
  14. Review of school health records.
  15. Vision screening, inclusive of distance vision, stereopsis, motility, and color discrimination.
  16. Hearing screening, inclusive of puretone audiometric assessment at a hearing level of 25 db at 500, 1000, 2000,4000, and 6000hz. (See Public School Health Manuel)
  17. General Information:

 

  1. Case history-educational, family and medical.
  2. Language used in the home.
  3. Language proficiency-(when the child’s dominant language is not English, assessment of the child’s proficiency in the dominant language shall be made by appropriate personnel or through the interpreter.)
  4. Will make referral to appropriate specialist for further evaluation is required when screening tests are failed or when physical impairments are suspected.
  5. Will make referral to appropriate school personnel for evaluation (i.e., Educational Diagnostician, OT,PT,SLP)
  6. Will accept and record returned evaluations and will check for completion prior to EA&R.
  7. Upon completion of EA&R final dispositions will be recorded and the record turned over to records clerk.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Personal Accountability:

  1. Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
  2. Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
  3. Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  4. Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
  5. Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/special application,
  6. Protects the District’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  7. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.

 

EMPLOYMENT:       Upon an offer of employment, pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1968, pass a background check and provide necessary documentation qualifications.
