We are seeking motivated individuals to work with students interested in sports, provide necessary structure and preparation for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season. Teach and enforce rules and regulations. 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

High School Diploma or Equivalency AND Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/bureaus/licensure/how-to-apply/athletic-coach-7-12/) from the New Mexico Public Education Department as well as completing the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association. QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program (in-season and offseason). 
  2. Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport at the same level of competition.  
  3. The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to 

 the sport. 

  1. The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions. 


Essential Functions: Instructs athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary to maximize their potential of achieving individual and team success. The head coach will provide instruction to all student-athletes that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence. Implement a code of conduct that adheres to policies and regulations approved by the EPS Board of Education, NMAA and the Athletic Handbook. Reports directly to Athletic Director, Principal or other appropriate authority. Establishes philosophies, skills and techniques to be learned by all members of his/her coaching staff. Plan and provide clinics, staff meetings, etc. to insure staff awareness of the overall program. Trains and informs staff, encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local clinic policy. Delegates specific duties to assistant coaches, supervises implementation of core philosophy and strategy, and analyzes program effectiveness. Maintains self and team discipline at all times and works to increase morale and cooperation. Assists the Athletic Director in scheduling games, securing transportation and requirements for tournament and/or special sport events, assists in the necessary preparation to participate scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates program needs with maintenance and school employees. Provides documentation to fulfill state and school requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and facilities.

REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principal. 

SUPERVISES: In several instances, the head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director, athletic coordinator and respective school principal.
