JOB GOAL:                        To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good 

                                        Body functions and exercise: to motivate each pupil to cultivate     

                                           Physical fitness, hygienic, health habits, and good social and emotional

                                        Adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical     

                                       Achievement; to develop strength, skill, agility, poise and coordination

                                        In individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in           

                                        Accordance with each pupil’s ability.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing teaching competencies and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Instruct pupils in citizenship, expected student behavior, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  3. Work cooperatively with other physical education/health teachers in planning a balanced education program to assure continuity and articulation.
  4. Analyze, demonstrate and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  5. Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
  6. Teach physical education classes for handicapped pupils, inter-scholastic activities.

  1. Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.
  2. Maintain and control the storage and use of school-owned property.
  3. On a daily basis, oversee that gym floors are clean and cared for, and make sure that custodians/maintenance personnel keep the gymnasium and/or multi-purpose building clean at all times, to include the shower(s), dressing rooms, storage rooms, lobby, porch, concession areas, weight room, rest rooms and office.
  4. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  5. Evaluate each pupil’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
  6. Maintain professional competencies through in-service education provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  7. Participate cooperatively with the principal or his/her designee to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  8. Select and requisition uniforms, equipment and instructional aides; and maintain required inventory records.
  9. Communicate with parents bi-weekly, monthly or sooner as the need arises, to discuss the student’s weaknesses, strengths, progress and behavior.
  10. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  11. Cooperate with school administration in providing specialty performing groups for specific occasions, board meeting, assemblies and inter-scholastic athletic events.
  12. Supervise polios in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  13. Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of bilingual development programs and implement EPSS.
  14. Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
  15. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities to include; in and out of school activities.
  16. Administer Group Standardized Tests in accordance with district testing program.
  17. Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.
  18. Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
  19. Perform other assigned tasks required of the supervisor(s).
